Lions Clubs Partner with Local Diabetes Education Program to Offer Free HbA1c Screenings

Lions Clubs Partner with Local Diabetes Education Program to Offer Free HbA1c Screenings ~ Marlette Regional Hospital has partnered with the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) and the Lions Clubs of Michigan (LCM) in their Defense Against Diabetes (DAD) campaign to offer free nonfasting hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) screenings at Marlette Regional Hospital now through the end of April.

Marlette Regional Hospital’s Diabetes Education Program has been awarded a grant from LCIF and LCM
to provide HbA1c screenings to those who would like to be screened for diabetes and those currently
living with diabetes. Marlette Regional Hospital’s laboratory team will perform the screenings Monday –
Friday from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. with no appointment necessary now through April 30, 2020 at Marlette
Regional Hospital.

Screening for diabetes is important. According to the American Diabetes Association, all people should
be screened at 3-year intervals starting at age 45. Screening should begin sooner if you are overweight
and have risk factors such as a family history of diabetes, inactive lifestyle, high blood pressure, abnormal
lipid levels, history of gestational diabetes, or are of certain race/ethnicities.
