Sandusky NHS Students Raise Funds for B.C.U.P.S. Program

Sandusky NHS Students Raise Funds for B.C.U.P.S. Program ~ In observance of winter homecoming festivities, Sandusky National Honor Society (NHS) and Sweetheart candidates dedicated Sweetheart Week to raising awareness about cancer and giving back to local organizations including Marlette Regional Hospital’s B.C.U.P.S. (Breast Cancer Understanding, Prevention and Screenings) program.

Through various fundraising efforts including awareness ribbon sales, a 50/50 raffle, hat day, and a pink and blue apparel day, students of Sandusky Junior/Senior High School recently presented the Marlette Regional Hospital Foundation with a
$282 donation for the B.C.U.P.S. program.

The B.C.U.P.S. program is in place to financially assist patients in acquiring important screening mammograms and diagnostic testing services such as a diagnostic mammogram, breast ultrasound, or an ultrasound-guided breast biopsy. For patients that have been diagnosed with breast cancer and are currently undergoing treatment, B.C.U.P.S. provides grant funding and applicants are eligible to reapply for funding every 6 months. Grant funding is available to residents of Sanilac, Tuscola, Lapeer, and Huron Counties based upon current program funding.

Patients that do not have health insurance coverage or those who are underinsured (limitations with coverage, large out-of-pocket deductible, younger than age criteria for screening, etc.) may qualify for screening and testing services through the B.C.U.P.S. program.

Marlette Regional Hospital extends its sincere thanks to the students of Sandusky Community Schools for their generosity and support of local cancer prevention programs that help residents in our Thumb Area communities! Keep up the great work!
