Diabetes & Understanding Carbohydrates Class Coming to Marlette

Diabetes & Understanding Carbohydrates Class Coming to Marlette ~ The Diabetes Self-Management Training (DSMT) program of Marlette Regional Hospital (MRH) invites Thumb Area residents living with diabetes to join them for an Understanding Carbohydrates class coming up on May 20th from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the MRH East Campus in Marlette. This class is intended for diabetic patients that have completed 10 hours of DSMT education.

MRH Diabetes Educator Melanie Campbell, RN, CDE shares, “Carbohydrates are an important part of everyone’s diet, especially when managing diabetes. Often my patients are confused about what they can eat, and ask if they should even eat carbs or cut out foods like potatoes, bread, and fruit. In this upcoming refresher class, we will be discussing the role of carbohydrates, what foods contain carbs, how to count them, and how to manage them when eating out.”

This class will be taught by a registered nurse and certified diabetes educator. The cost associated with DSMT programs and classes is covered by most insurance companies, but co-pays and deductibles may apply. Attendees should call their insurance company to verify coverage for education. A referral by a primary care provider is required to attend this class.

Please contact the diabetes education office at 989-635-4348 for more information, to RSVP, or for referral assistance. A guest is welcome to attend with participants.
