PHYSICAL THERAPY

According to the American Physical Therapy Association, physical therapy is defined as the care and services proved by or under the direction and supervision of a physical therapist. Services are provided to patients who have impairment, functional limitations, disabilities or changes in physical function and health status resulting from injury, disease, or other causes. Physical therapy services typically include but are not limited to:

  • Examination and evaluation of impairments, functional limitations, disabilities or changes in physical function
  • Customized treatment programs to improve one’s ability to perform daily activities and return to functional activities including work and sports
  • Instruction, education, and guidance to patient, family members and caregivers
  • Assistive equipment recommendations and usage training

Examples of conditions and injuries that a state licensed physical therapist may treat include but not limited to:

  • Orthopedic, sports and workplace injuries such as total joint replacements, low back pain, or joint and soft tissue injuries
  • Neurological conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury or Parkinson’s disease
  • Balance disorders and fall prevention
