MRH Foundation Celebrates Record-Setting Golf Fundraiser

MRH Foundation Celebrates Record-Setting Golf Fundraiser ~ For those that recall the weather in early September, the forecast was uncomfortably hot and humid with spotty rain showers. But on September 6th, the skies cleared with a subtle breeze just in time for the Marlette Regional Hospital (MRH) Foundation to tee off for their 10th annual Driving for Health Golf Scramble hosted at the Lapeer Country Club.

As in all years past, the Foundation’s volunteer golf committee set out to achieve a new record-setting year, just a tad better than the year prior. What actually ensued was a phenomenal fundraising event that greatly surpassed any year prior—netting over $36,760 to benefit Marlette Regional Hospital’s acute care/swing bed unit renovation project! The success of this year’s event is a direct reflection of the volunteers’ hard work and dedication to meeting their goal (they greatly surpassed it!), along with the support received from 36 golf teams, 144 players, 83 business sponsors, and 51 in-kind donors.

The day’s festivities was enjoyed by all with various contests and games played on the course, but the ultimate challenge was to win first place for the men’s team, women’s team, or mixed division. As scorecards were tallied, the following teams were awarded prize packages:
• The Marlette Roofing & Sheet Metal Co. team took first place for the men’s division with a score of 58. Golf Chairman Scott Keys awarded their team members Al Patrick, Justin Anthes, Jason Keys, and Ken Stevens.
• Tri-County Bank/Liebler Agency took first place for the women’s division with a score of 66. Golf Chairman Scott Keys awarded team members Kendra Jickling, Meredith Lyons, Sheryl Cribbins, and Cathie Lorenzen.
• McLaren Port Huron team took first place for the mixed division with a score of 58. Golf Chairman Scott Keys awarded team members David Monan, John Schweihofer, Sarah Cowhy, and Jim Lotts.

Cash prizes were awarded for a closest to the pin contest; the men’s winner was Les King and women’s winner was Sarah Cowhy. Although no one took home a hole in one prize, Sean Cummings won Beats headphones and a $50 gift card for a 30’ inflatable dinosaur game sponsored by Kohler Oil & Propane. Additionally, a 50” Samsung 4K Smart TV and Apple iWatch was awarded to Brad Schaub and Madelyn Huffman, respectively, for a deck of cards raffle sponsored by Marlette Regional Hospital employees and Keys Restoration.

The Marlette Regional Hospital Foundation expresses sincere thanks to all of the golfers, sponsors, in-kind donors, and our volunteers who supported and made this year’s event a roaring success.
