CMU Medical Students Partner with Providers in Sanilac & Lapeer Counties ~ Medical students from Central Michigan University (CMU) College of Medicine (CMED) have begun their third year of study practicing in Sanilac and Lapeer Counties as a result of a partnership with McKenzie Health System and Marlette Regional Hospital, affiliates of United Healthcare Partners. CMED has a strong desire to provide a sustainable supply of highly-trained physicians to underserved regions of Michigan and the Midwest.
On January 15th, McKenzie Health System and Marlette Regional Hospital warmly welcomed two CMU medical students to their facilities and communities. These students will work in partnership with clinical physicians and staff as part of a six-month program called the Comprehensive Community Clerkship (CCC) that aims to expand upon their previous two years of classroom studies. Marlette and McKenzie are two of many CCC sites in the state working in partnership with CMED, and this is their fourth year hosting students.
At McKenzie Health System, Neel Patel of Mississauga, Ontario will work in partnership with Dr. James Sams in Sandusky and Peck serving patients’ family health care needs. Neel completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Toledo and earned a degree in science. His interests include: table tennis, squash, baseball, and volleyball.
At Marlette Regional Hospital, Ivanna Murskyj will work in partnership with Dr. William Starbird in North Branch serving patients’ family health care needs. Ivanna completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan and earned a degree in biology. Her interests include: hiking, camping, cooking, volleyball, and reading.
These students will work in partnership with McKenzie Health System and Marlette Regional Hospital through July 2018. Please join us in welcoming these students to our communities!
